What is digital deadlocking (secure mode) on the Yale Unity Entrance Lock?

Digital Deadlocking on the Yale Unity Entrance lock enables the ability to lock both the inside and outside handles. On the Yale Unity Entrance Lock digital deadlocking can be actioned via the Yale Access App or the contactless key tag. 

How does the internal electronic snib operate the lock?

The internal electronic snib/button acts as a method for users to change the status of the lock status between locked and unlocked modes manually. For example; Press the internal electronic snib/button to change to passage mode for short visits outside. 

Can I use the lock on an outdoor gate?

No. The Unity lock cannot be used on an outdoor gate. The front of the lock furniture has an IP rating of IP54. We suggest that the lock is installed on an entry door with a form of shelter directly over the lock.

Is the Unity Lock Z-Wave compliant?

No. Unfortunately the Unity lock is not Z-Wave compliant and cannot be used on Z-Wave home automation platforms. A Yale Assure series lock with a Yale Z-Wave module can be purchased to integrate into Z-Wave home automation systems.

What APP do I use to setup the Unity Entrance Lock?

The Unity Entrance lock uses the Yale Access App which is available on either iOS or Android.

How to

How do I add contactless key tags?

There are 2 contactless key tags supplied with the Yale Unity Entrance Lock. A contactless key tag can be added to the lock via the Yale Access App. Follow the steps below;

  1. Tap the guest list icon.
  2. Select invite
  3. Select contactless Key Only
  4. Name the contactless key
  5. Select the lock that the contactless key will be paired too.
  6. Wait for the Bluetooth connection to the lock
  7. Have the contactless key ready
  8. Once prompted by the app, tap the contactless key on the contactless key reader on the front of the lock.

Once a contactless key is created the access can be set.

  • ‘Always’, for unlimited access for kids and family members
  • ‘Reoccurring’, for someone like a service person; for example, every Monday at 10am
  • ‘Temporary access’ for a limited date a time period you choose, once the set time ends, keys are automatically deleted so they can never be reused.

All keys can be deleted at any time for any reason.

How do I activate and deactivate secure mode?

Activation

Secure mode can be activated through two methods, the Yale Access App and Contactless key tags.

Method 1: Yale Access App

Place the lock into locked mode (red circle). Hold the circle down. The circle will begin pulsing and the circle will fill and once complete, release. A red square will now appear in the App reading Closed|Secured.

Method 2: Contactless Key Tag

From the outside of the lock, ensuring the door is closed, hold the contactless key tag over the reader for 5 seconds. The lock will beep 3 times and the LED indicator will flash red.

Deactivation

  1. Tap on Secured Square symbol to immediately unlock.
  2. Hold the contactless key tag over the reader and the lock unlock.

*IMPORTANT: For safety reasons the inside handle should NOT BE LOCKED (SECURE MODE) while the building is occupied. Ensure the building is not occupied before proceeding with SECURE MODE 

How do I change the lock handing?

If you have already setup the lock with the Yale Access App, to re-hand the lock see I have handed my lock incorrectly. How do I change the handing?

To hand the lock, hold down on the metal slide tab on the inside of the handle located towards the bottom. Rotate the handle downwards to the left or right, depending on your selected handing. Ensure you complete this step for both handles. If you feel any resistance when handing do not force the handle. Release the tab and handle try again.

This is shown in step 3 of the Yale Unity Instruction Guide.

Troubleshooting

My alarm has been triggered, how do I disable the alarm?

To disable the locks alarm, the lock needs to be unlocked either via the App or using the Contactless key tag.

The door status is always showing closed. When the door is opened, the status still showed closed.

Check that the Door Position Sensor is connected and installed properly. If the Door Position Sensor is not installed correctly, you will not be able to enter the lock into secure mode.

The latch is not retracting when the handles are turned.

The latch will only retract once the batteries are installed into the lock.

IMPORTANT: The spindles must be engaged into the latch like below. If this is not correctly aligned you could damage your lock.

Check the thickness of your door. If the door is over 45mm you will need to use the extension spindles and extension hub. 

My Lock does not fit correctly on my door?

Check the door thickness. If your door is less than 45mm you will not need to use the spindle extension and hub.

Check the alignment of the latch and the 54mm hole. The latch must be centred of the hole and also ensure you have used the latch supplied with the product. If the lock is not installed correctly, you may damage the lock.

If you are installing the lock over an existing door preparation, check that all drill holes are straight and as per the Unity installation template provided.

IMPORTANT: The spindles must be engaged into the latch like below. If this is not correctly aligned you could damage your lock.

If required, a 70mm backset latch can be purchased separately; Part number: Y530-222SC.

I hear a grinding sound and then an error beep when trying to operate the lock.

Is you hear any grinding sounds when trying to operate the lock there is pressure on the clutch mechanism, which can be from installation misalignments. Remove the lock from the door and ensure that the holes drilled are correct as per the template and in line as per the template. Ensure that when you are reinstalling the lock, that the spindles are fitted into the latch hole.

I have handed my lock incorrectly. How do I change the handing?

You can change the handing of the lock if you have not installed the batteries.

To hand the lock,

  1. Hold down on the metal slide tab on the inside of the handle located towards the bottom.
  2. Rotate the handle downwards to the left or right, depending on your selected handing.

Ensure you complete this step for both handles. If you feel any resistance when handing do not force the handle. Release the tab and handle try again.

If you have installed the batteries and setup the lock and need to change the handing follow the below process;

  1. Open the Door
  2. Place the lock into Secure mode by locking the lock and then holding the red circle down until the circle fills then let go. A square will appear.
  3. Remove the batteries from the lock and remove the lock from the door.
  4. Once removed you can change the lock handing as per the above steps.
